Board of Directors

Joseph DeSisto Alling, President

Joseph graduated from UConn in 2016 with a B.S. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. His interest in biodiversity began as a child in Maine, where he developed a love for unappreciated creatures. In college he conducted research on centipedes and millipedes at the UConn Biological Collection, and also has experience studying caterpillars, bees, beetles, salamanders, and marine fishes. He now works as a medical editor at Envision Pharma Group.

Wendy Zimbardi, Vice President

Wendy is a life-long lover of the natural world, interested in leaving a place better than how it was found. While living in Milford for the last 20 years she has worked in corporate America, run a small business, and volunteered for a wide array of nonprofits. She is currently focused on raising her son Jack with her husband Steve, while contributing to her cherished community of Milford. Feeling that open space is invaluable, she is thankful to help to preserve it.

Cheryl Cappiali, Treasurer

A 35 year Milford resident, Cheryl is focused on conserving and restoring natural habitat by removing non-native invasive plants, and replacing them with native plants that provide food and habitat for native insects, amphibians, animals, and birds. A UConn Extension Master Gardener, she mentors many interns and together they maintain four City of Milford native plant gardens while removing invasive plants. As a lover of the natural world, through study and observation she is continually learning the secrets of how living things interact. When she is not removing invasive plant species she can be found observing insects and their role in our environment.

Bryan Anderson, Secretary

A four-term alderman from the 5th District, Bryan's interest in the environment stems from many years of hikes up Sleeping Giant, summers on Connecticut lakes, visits to his grandmother's farm, long bike rides through country towns and villages, and having grown up near watersheds with fish, snapping turtles, toads, and frogs. Annual family vacations on Cape Cod where he communed with crabs, starfish, horseshoe crabs, clams and other mollusks cemented a love of the outdoors.
